Maria Elizabeth Leyden is mentioned often in letters from Catharina Leyden Flink to Elizabeth Leiden (wife of Adam J Leiden) states:Her birthday was determined from the following quotes:
"My sister who is 75 is healthy all the way through. She is much stronger than I." (1 Jan 1899)
"My sister is 76 but she is very active, more healthy than her daughter Leilla" (29 Oct 189)
"My sister will be 80 in February. She spins all day long." (24 Dec 1903)She is mentioned in the last letter from Catharina in 1912, so was still alive then, and might have outlived her younger sister Catharina.
Leilla is mentioned in a letter from Christina Leyden Flink (sister of Adam J. Leiden) to Elizabeth Leiden (wife of Adam J. Leiden)
On 29 Oct 1899
My sister [Maria Elizabeth Leyden] is 76 but she is very active, more healthy than her daughter, Leilla. The daughter has cramps in her heart, legs (varicose veins). I think our legs are different in the way they act. Also in letter dated 20 Jan 1905:
Neice Leilla has children working in machine factory in Dusseldorf (the oldest one), second one studies medicine (just like his father). Youngest one has his own business (selling-learning) apprentice. Has a daughter still at home, who is 16. Now the children of your son Jacob are all grown up - they help very much with the work. Soon will start looking for a wife. Hoping to pick right girl.
In several letters from Catharina Flink (sister of Adam J. Leiden) to Elizabeth Leiden (wife of Adam J. Leiden), she mentions Henry going to Chicago but not doing very well
20 Jan 1905:
Neice Leilla has children working in machine factory in Dusseldorf (the oldest one), second one studies medicine (just like his father). Youngest one has his own business (selling-learning) apprentice. Has a daughter still at home, who is 16.2 Jan 1906:
A oldest son from my niece is a chemist in Buffalo. He likes it there but does not want to stay there, because social life in Germany is nicer.13 Jan 1912
Heinric Longard in Chicago. In spring returned to Germany. Didn't seem to go as far as he expected to go.
In 24 Dec 1903 letter from Catharina Leyden Flink (sister of Adam J. Leiden) to Elizabeth Leiden (wife of Adam J. Leiden):
"My sister [Maria Elizabeth Leyden] will be 80 years old in February. She spins all day long. The son is a judge in Dusseldorf (Longard). This is closer to where her daughter [Leilla?] and husband and children live.In 20 Jan 1905 letter from Catharina Leyden Flink (sister of Adam J. Leiden) to Elizabeth Leiden (wife of Adam J. Leiden):
"Her youngest son, age 66, lives in Dusseldorf. He is a judge in the superior court."
That would put his birth in 1839, but that is before his parents were married, which was 1852
Name and parents taken from marriage record in Sobernheim.
He is listed as a doctor

According to notes to Leo Leiden from Germany:
Johann Peter Leyden was the owner of a large farm in Martinstein.
He was an officer in the Catholic Church from 1877 to 1888.
He had at least two childrenI originally had 1910 as his death date (not sure where that came from), but Ann Saab sent me a hand-drawn family tree that stated he died in 1890. Johann Peter's daughter Johanna married August Reitz, who was Ann Saab's great-grandfather. I also obtained his birth date from that document. They baptismal date is from the church records (see image). The document also stated that Johanna died in 1910, but I found her death record in Martinstein, which states it was 1911.
Johanna is mentioned in a letter from Catharina Leyden Flink to Elizabeth Leyden, who was Johann Peter's sister.
22 Dec 1910
You can tell your mother that the oldest daughter of her brother Peter died two weeks ago [Jahanna Leyden]. She was married, living in Budenheim, had four children. Those four children are all grown up. They are very well off.On a family tree obtained from Ann Saab (daughter of Karl Reitz), her death date was listed as 10 Dec, 1910.)
