Pauline didn't have a middle name. She later used her maiden name as a middle name.
The family story is that she was very sickly when she was born, and they thought she would die soon, so they wanted to have her baptized. The priest didn't like the middle name they had picked out, and they didn't want to wait to think of another name. (The middle name might have been Ruth)

According to Leo Leiden book:
Mr. and Mrs. Leiden, who came from Germany, settled in St. Lawrence, Pennsylvania, because their doctor suggested they move near the pine forests so as to get relief for Mrs. Leiden who had catarrh. Father Gallitzin had made Northern Cambria County famous and so it was recommended as the logical place for them. They first settled at Chest Springs where they resided for several years before moving to St. Lawrence.According to later notes:
Leyden evidently is the German spelling of the name. Soon after their marriage the name must have been changed to the English spelling. The Leiden family lived in the Philadelphia area, but evidently moved several times. Limited sacramental records are registered at different churches in different parts of the city. The Leidens moved to Boyertown, PA for a couple of years in the early 1860's.
Family tradition is that to get relief for Elizabeth, who had catarrh, the doctor suggested that they move near the pine forests, and since Fr. Gallitzen had made Cambria County famous, it seemed to be the l ogical place for them. They moved to northern Cambria County about 1864 and probably lived a short time in Chest Springs. In 5 June 1865, Adam purchased property in St. Boniface and the family moved there until 18 February of 1867, when he purchased 89 acres in St. Lawrence from John Ballweber. Cost of farm was $1,100. In this Ballweber house, Adam opened the first tavern / hotel in the village of St. Lawrence. He soon opened the first tavern / hotel in the village of St. Lawrence. During the summer of 1868, he built a new building which became their home and a hotel and in later years a store and post office. During the next several years, Adam purchased several tracts of land, large and small, in St. Lawrence and in Chest Springs. One of these was in Waltz Farm, which he later sold to his son, Jacob.
3 Apr 1869 Adam purchased a large plot of land bordering on his farm (about 893 acres)
12 July 1871 Adam made a return trip to Germany, "to look after property of considerable value in his native town of Saarbruck, and the ownership of which he is one of the heirs." (Quotation from Cambria Freeman of 13 July 1871)
15 Apr 1872 Adam traded his property in St. Boniface to John Thomas for 89 acres in St. Lawrence, also bordering on his farm. Now known as the Thomas place.
2 May 1872 Adam purchased for $1000 the Waltz Farm, also in St. Lawrence and bordering on his other property. This farm injcluded 100 acres, 40 acres cleared, a two story log house and log barn, both in state of dilapidation and decay.
1875 - Adam purchased four different properties in Chest Springs at sherriff sales.
14 Jun 1876"
Adam and Elizabeth sold the Waltz place to their son, John
Adam sold to Elizabeth: Four pieces of real estate in Chest Springs, three tracts in St. Lawrence, all farm equipment, animals, tools and all household furniture, etc.
Elizabeth gave Adam her power of attorney11Feb 1879 PF Carney purchased for $430.00 the Leiden homestead at sherriff sale to pay debt of Adam Leiden to Fisher & Co. It was then a two story plank house weatherboarded, one large bank barn, frame barn, and other outbuildings
July 1880 Some timber sold for $12,000
3 Aug 1880 - Elizabeth received from county treasurer deed for two properties 433 acres and 389 acres. This was evidently a taxs sale of these properties (1876 and 1877 taxes not paid)
30 Apr 1881 - Elizabeth & Adam Leiden sold to PF Karney one of the Chest Springs properties for $500 in cosideration on urchase price of Leiden homestead.
Jul 1881 - Jacob Leiden was appointed guardian of younger son, Henry.
8 Sep 1881 - Sheriff sale to Carney recorded.
8 Sep 1881 - Elizabeth bought farm back for $3,5001 Nov 1882 - Adam died. Buried in St. Lawrence
9 Jun 1886 - Jacob and Henry purchased a property near the Leiden homestead as a home for Elizabeth and Catherine
21 Mar 1896 - Elizabeth sold the farm to Henry. It is now described as 100 acres, 75 acres cleared, a large two story weatherboarded house, large frame barn, and other outbuildings
25 May 1898 - Elizabeth sold three other properties in Chest Springs.
1916 - Elizabeth estate transferred to Jacob and Henry
17 Sep 1916 - Elizabeth's home purchased in 1886 sold to George Warner

Leo Leiden book - family history for Henry Abel quotes Gable, History of Cambria Co, 1926, where Elizabeth's death is claimed to be 1864, not 1865
buried in Saint Joseph Cemetery at Hart's Sleeping Place, Cambria,Pennsylvania
Valentine Yahner was one of the stone masons that laid the foundation for a church in St. Lawrence
Leo Leiden book quotes family history book "Portrait and Biographical Cyclopedia of Cambria Co., 1896
Valentine Yahner was born, reared and educated in Bavaria in the southern part of Germany. He came in 1831 to Bellefonte where he worked for two years at his trade of stone mason being principally engaged around furnaces. He then removed to Glen Connell, now Chest Township, and purchased a small tract of woodland which he cleared and owned up to 1839. In that year he sold and removed to Elder Township, where he purchased a 240 acre tract on which was a small clearning and a few improvements. Here he spent the remainder of his life in clearing, farming and improving his land. He was born in February 14, 1804 and died April 15, 1859. He was a good citizen, a Democrat, and married at Bellefonte, Christine Chardon, who was of French descent. She was born in Alsace-Lorraine and died December 26, 1880, age 78. They had three children: Paul; Elizabeth, who married Henry Abel and died in 1861 at the age of 27; and John, a merchant of Patton.
From letter of Emma Thomas--
"It is quite an interesting and romantic story about how our great grandparents left their native land, met aboard ship and were married after reaching America."
"When our grandparents were first married neither one could speak the other's language. And wouldn't you know it, to be sure the German pervailed 'Dutchland ober alles'."
1870 census has her living with Paul Yahner
1870 census also lists Martin Yahner & Elizabeth Yahner, both 46, from Baden & France, resp.
