Margaret had surgery on her back in 1948 at which time they told her that she had about 5 more years to live. At the time of her death in 1955 she had lived 2 years longer then expected. She died as a result of an automobile accident when she and Bill were returning from Meadville, Pa. to their home in Patton, Pa., when their car hit an ice patch on the highway.

Margaret was a private duty registered nurse until her retirement. Margaret had surgery on her back in 1948, she had a scar covering her entire spinal column. They had told her that she had about 5 more years to live. At the time of her death in 1955, from the automobile accident, she had lived 2 years longer then they had expected.
William was a railroad employee. He was the mayor of the Moose Lodge in Meadville, PA for many years.

Benedict Otto Short was the son of Paul Short b. 11-2-1843 Carroltown, Cambria Co PA. Paul Short was the son of Felix Short b. 1799 ErigalKieran, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Felix married Letitia Magee in 1832 and they left the same year to arrive in New York Harbor. Felix Short was the son of Paul Short (McGirr) and Catherine.
Felix Short arrived in Cambria Co PA sometime prior to the 1840 census, he bought a 100 acre farm in Carroltown from Philip Noon. Felix lived on that farm until he died in 1893. The Short family was originally named McGirr in Northern Ireland. They attended St. Benedict's Church in Carrolltown.
