From Susan Bearer:

Pierre Joncour's wife Yvonne was said to have a last name Simon. There were some Simon's in the Cambria County area also, but I haven't been able to connect anyone. I believe there was a Genevieve that Pat felt was connected some how but as far as I know never had any actual proof. Just a FYI incase you ever think you ran across something.

Jack Johncour

Information from Family History book by Patricia Burchfield
Jack & Frank Johncour never visited America, but stayed in France with their parents.
Assuming he was older than the other children, since he stayed behind.

James Johncour

According to Family History by Patricia Burchfield:

James never married, and was never naturalized a US citizen. He immigrated in 1887.

For the 1930 census, he was living with his sister Helen Gill in Hastings, PA

He later lived with a niece Mary Jane (Williams)Kinkead in Patton, PA.

He would get the furnace going in the winter months and enjoyed to help with the customers in the stationary store that she owned. Even though he was almost blind, he could give change by the feel of the coins.

He would walk the country roads to visit her sister Mary Frances (Johncour) Williams that lived just outside Patton, PA. The family became concerned about his welfare walking the highways, so he went to live with his nephew Henry Williams in Johnstown where he remained until they could no longer care for him. He was sent to Laurel Crest Manor in Ebensburg, PA where he remained until his death.

Harry Gill

According to Burchfield:
The Cambria News, Hastings PA Thurs, 3 June 1943:
Headline: 65 Hastings Grads Receive Diplomas
"In passing, we are sort of awed and thrilled to remark that one of the members of the class completed the prescribed four year course in spite of a marked physical handicap. Harry Gill, although "stone" deaf, met the requirements and was awarded his diploma with his class mates. He is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Albert Gill. Stricken with Infantile paralysis a number of years ago, Harry lost his hearing, and noted specialists state that it can never be restored, except by a miracle ..."

Louis Gill

This name appears in newspaper obituary of William Murl Gill
It doesn't appear on any census

According to Burchfield (via Rosanna Gill), after the death of his wife, he had the children adopted by a very good family, since he was unable to care for them.

Burial: St. Bernard Cemetery, Hastings, Cambria County, Pa.
Residence: Houtzdale, Clearfield County, Pa.

In the newspaper obituary for Louis it notes the following daughters: Miss Margaret Gill, Mrs. Garald Bonsell (Burchfield believes that Garald should be Gerald), Mrs. James Miller & Mrs. Wayne Doyle.

Original birth date for Louis was: 17 Mar 1885, his obituary stated 17 Mar 1882, which would conflict with the birth date for Peter J. The tombstone for Louis lists 17 Mar 1883, which is presumed correct since it doesn't conflict.

A FEARFUL FATALITY

Three Little Children Burned to Death in the House of Their Parents. On Friday night a fearful calamity befell the family of Ernest LaBoll, a French miner living in this place, and left him and his young wife homeless and childless.

About 7 o’clock on that evening LaBall and his wife, in company with the latter’s sister, who lives at the Caire Ovens, left their home and went to a near neighbor’s, leaving their three little children sleeping quietly in one of the rooms on the first floor. Less than an hour afterward they discovered their house on fire, and the flames so far advanced that they were already breaking out of the upstairs windows, and the interior of the house was a mass of flames.

A large crowd soon collected, but it was utterly impossible to do anything, either to save the children or the house, so rapidly had the fire spread. Willing hands soon ripped the siding off the house near where the bed containing the children was known to be, and a hideous sight disclosed itself. On the bare springs of the bed were seen the charred bodies of the children wrapped in flames. No water was to be had, but snow was thrown on the bodies sufficient to prevent them from being further burned, and as soon as possible they were taken from the ruins of the house and prepared for burial. The children were two boys and a girl, the latter being four years of age, while the boys were aged six years and nineteen months respectfully. Their remains were interred then next day in the Catholic cemetery at this place.

The origin of the fire is a mystery, but it is supposed to have been caused by the explosion of a lamp, as one was left lighted in the room next to where the children slept. The loss was complete, and will reach about $600. Which is fully covered by insurance.

Mary Frances Johncour

According to 1920 census, she immigrated in 1889, and was naturalized in 1891
======================
Mary Frances is the grandmother of Patricia Burchfield, who compiled the book. Burchfield told me that Mary Frances was younger than she thought.

According to Burchfield:
Mary Frances and her sister Helen Orford Gill immigrated in 1880. They came with an aunt & uncle that raised Mary Frances as she was only 8 years of age.

It is said that she could not read or write but spoke fluent English & French (Breton). Note the Breton because she told Burchfield (when asked if she would teach Burchfield French) that she did not speak French and if she taught her to speak the language she spoke that if Burchfield tried speaking to someone who spoke French they wouldn't understand her.

She also told Burchfield that the part of France that she was from could look across the channel and see England. The family was from the Brittany area of France, however Mary Frances was born in Laon, which is about 75 miles west of Paris. Where she was living before coming to America is unknown.

Peter, James, Mary Ann, Jack, Frank, and William stayed in France. James came to America in 1887, Peter, Mary Ann, and William came at later dates, and Jack and Frank remained in France, never coming to America.

Mary Frances came to America in 1880 at age 8, with her sister Helen Orford (Joncour) Gill. Helen’s husband Frank, son Frank and the Uncle & Aunt that raised her. It is said that Mary Frances could not read or write, but she spoke fluent French (Breton) and English. I add the Breton because she told me, when I asked her to teach me how to speak French, that she did not speak French, but rather Breton, & if I tried to speak to someone in the language that she would teach me, people speaking French would not understand what I was saying. She also told me, that the part of France that she was from, you could look across the Channel & see England. This leads me to believe that she was from Brittany, however, she was born in Laon which is about 75 miles west of Paris. Where they were living before their departure from France is unknown. (Note from Patricia Airhart Burchfield)

Volumes v.34 through v. 37 (covering dates of 1/1880 through 4/1881) have been checked in the “Germans to America’ passenger lists & they are not listed as immigrants. Gill & Johncour names were both searched. [Notes from Patricia Burchfield].
