Introduction

This document allows you to find what monsters in Final Fantasy XII have what items and where you can find them. Final Fantasy XII introduced some new features not found in the other Final Fantasy games. For example, when an enemy is weak, your party may be able to poach it rather than defeat it. The difference is that when you poach an enemy, you tend to get more (and possibly better) items, but you don't gain any experience or LP points.

Another new feature is the Bazaar. When you defeat enemies, you can either get money (gil) and/or items, including "loot", which is a wide variety of items that often have no purpose other than to be sold to merchants. As you sell certain combinations of items, new items will become available at the bazaars (all bazaars are connected, so it doesn't matter where you sold an item or where you try to buy something.) Some bazaar items are only available one time; other items can be generated each time the combination of loot is sold. For example, each time you sell 1 High Arcana, 4 Snake Skins, and 2 Serpent Eyes in any order to any combination of merchants, a Serpentarius will become available from the bazaar under the name "Jewel of the Serpent." This file can help you find where to get the items you want in order to create the desired bazaar packages.

So if you are trying to get something for the bazaar that takes some weird components that you don't have, you can see what enemies have them, and where they can be found. If you are looking for more than one item, you can compare the enemies and locations and possibly combine the search for several items that can be obtained from enemies in the same area.

The information in this guide came from various sources, including from the times I've played this game, the Official Strategy Guide, and the FAQ by Split Infinity on gamefaqs. I normally encourage people to buy the official strategy guide. Usually the maps alone are worth the price. For this game, however, I have mixed feelings about this. The maps aren't very clear, and there are some areas that aren't covered very well. I used the FAQ by Split Infinity from gamefaqs, and found it better than the official guide in most cases.

The items listed here are the potential items that can be dropped, stolen, or poached. In most cases, you can only steal one item from an enemy, but if you have the Thief's Cuffs equipped, you can get more. The number of items that are dropped after the battle will vary from battle to battle also. Some items are more likely to be obtained than others, so you might end up having to fight certain enemies many times before you get the item(s) you are looking for. I have also found that some characters are more likely to steal than others, and certain characters tended to steal more and better items. We found that Vaan stole more often, but Ashe stole more and better items, so experiment and see how it works for your parties.

This document lists all the enemies within the game Final Fantasy XII, along with where they can be found, and any items can be gotten from them (e.g., dropped or stolen). These lists are cross-referenced, and the HTML version allows you to click on any name to find more information about that enemy, item, or location. The document is divided into sections:

Enemies: A list of all enemies, their HP, what items can be gotten from them, and where they can be found.
Locations: A list of all locations in the game, what enemies can be found there, and what items they have
Items: A list of all items that can be obtained from enemies, along with a list of those enemies, where they can be found, and how the items can be obtained.

This file was created using a tool developed by Bill Pringle, and is available from him. The tool has been used to create lists for at least two games so far (Lost Odyssey and Final Fantasy XII), and could be used to create similar lists for any game. In order to use this tool, you will need to create an XML file with the appropriate information, and run an XSL script. There are free programs available that can help you do this, and Bill Pringle would be glad to help you get started. Use of this tool is free, provided you keep this paragraph intact in your file(s).
